1. Most of the information comes from the India Office Records In the records, the main source is:

• Returns of baptisms, marriages and burials Records of these events for European and Eurasian Christians in India and in other places
  

Other important sources are:

• Military Department records These include records of officers’ appointment to the armies of the East India Company
• Marine Department records. These include records of service for officers and seamen in the East India Company’s maritime service.
• Accountant-General’s Department records These include records of army officers contributing to the Madras Military Fund
• Other record sources
